The 2015 Fort St. John International Air Show secures support from City Council

June of 2015 will mark 25 years since the first Air Show in Fort St. John while also marking its 10th performance, as they’re typically hosted in two year intervals – excluding the few years in which the Air Show didn’t fully develop.

The 2015 show will be a one day evening event, opposed to the typical two day schedule, with performances by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, CF-18, and other civilian aircrafts.

The budget for this show is said to be $120,000 – $160,000 “depending on [the] amount of static display.”

The funds secured from the city are being used to off-set the cost of hosting the event, according to the Director of Recreation and Leisure Services, Ross deBoer.

These costs include among other things fuel, protective services, and performance agreements.

In addition, other local non-profit organizations stand to reap benefits from the event as a partner, and those include Search and Rescue, local Cadets, and other youth associations.

There are also already big plans in the works for 2017, as that marks the 75th Anniversary of the Alaska Highway.

“Our committee will be working on this for the next 2.5 years to make this the biggest and best show ever,” a PowerPoint presented to council earlier in the year reads. “We will work to partner with historical societies and other groups associated with the construction of the Alaska Highway to promote the historical significance between Canada and the US.”

More specific details about performers will be released in the coming months.
