“…In order to ensure that a permanent, sustainable and vital community is build, council must be assertive with our intentions to create such a community,” Mayor Lori Ackerman said in part during her inaugural speech. “..Our path to success may look more like a maze, but our community’s economy is significantly attached to the resource industries –  and our resource industries are global.”

If there was one thing in common between the Mayor and all of Councillors’ speeches, it was thanking family and friends for their ongoing support during each term – as this is not the first for any of them.

They also each took the time to thank city voters who came out, and all agreed they look forward to working with each other over the next four years.

“[I] extend certain thanks and gratitude for my family who has put up with now three terms – going into four terms,” Councillor Dan Davies said. “[I] certainly want to thank the citizens for putting me back onto council and I look forward to serving them for the next four years.”

Councillor Gord Klassen said, “I just want to thank my wife Sharon for putting up with the last couple of months here. I’m excited to be in and thankful for the votes that got us here.”

“I would like to thank my friends, some of which are here tonight; it means a lot to have the support behind you… staff for putting up with us, the voters who did come out and vote, and those who voice their opinion on how they wish to see our city run,” Councillor Byron Stewart said. “Thank you, I greatly appreciate this opportunity.”

The first official meeting of the 2014 City Council will take place on Monday December 8 inside Council Chambers, 10631 – 100 Street, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

In the words of Councillor Trevor Bolin, “Here’s to the next four years – cheers.”
