Peace region receives $20 million from province for agricultural industry

“It hasn’t been easy, but we managed to convince our colleagues down south that [the] fund should stay entirely in the Peace country,” MLA Pimm goes on to explain. “…It’s part of the Environmental Assessment Certificate; it’s actually listed on the environmental certificate as to how the makeup of a committee has to be structured, and moving forward, we’ll be working on getting that committee struck.

MLA Pimm says it’s possible that the Peace River Grain Industry Development Council will be responsible for delivering the funding.

“That body has been in place since 1993 and they’ve delivered these programs to the Peace country for many, many years, and we think that they can do a good job of it,” MLA Pimm says. “So, that’s what we’re going to be proposing to our ministers and B.C. Hydro.”

MLA Pimm says his hope is that the Peace regions begins to produce more agriculture as a result of the funding.

“Who knows; we might compete with Fraser Valley at some point in time,” MLA concluded.
