Senior Ooks finish second in season opening hoops tourney

After the defeat coach Ryan Leclair said he was satisfied with the finish considering the lack of practice time together leading up to the first tournament.

“I was quite happy. They played really well. The first couple games of the season we didn’t know how it was going to go. We didn’t have a lot of practice time,” he explained. “They were very energetic and they were running hard. The defence was good all weekend.”

The game was close after the first half as they Ooks were only down seven, but ended up struggling down the stretch as Nechako made adjustments in the second half. The final score was 68-27.

“Basically they took their trap off. We were getting some easy buckets off their trap and as soon as they did that it forced us to play offence and we hadn’t practiced much offence so we couldn’t get much going,” Leclair said.

The girls will join the senior boys in Grande Prairie over the weekend for their second tournament of the year.
