The Fort St. John Senior Flyers were on home ice last night as they took on the winless Grimshaw Huskies. The outcome was no surprise to anyone as the Flyers outshot Grimshaw 45-22, and took home a 9-2 win.
Fort St. John wasted little time getting to work as they scored 34 seconds into the game. They added another three goals, while Grimshaw scored one of their own to make things 4-1 after 20 minutes.
As the second got underway it was more of the same as the Flyers outshot the Huskies 14-5 in the frame, and increased their lead to 6-2.
Fort St. John added three more markers in the third to wrap things up at 9-2.
After the game head coach Gerard Dicaire said you never want to be known as the squad that gives a struggling team their first win, so establishing momentum early was important especially after being shut out in their last game against Grande Prairie.
“Those ones are scary because you don’t ever want to be that team that gives them their first win of the year,” he stated. “I wasn’t nervous but it was on my mind that we didn’t want to give that one up. We went to the net hard in that Grande Prairie game but it was a good game for us to get the guys some confidence back before Thursday’s game in Spirit River.”
Scoring for the Flyers were Kyle Leahy (2), Dan Bryan, Jeff Shipton (2), Cash Brinkworth, Rick Cleaver (2), Joey Massingham, and Payden Wongstedt.
The Flyers next game is scheduled for Thursday night in Spirit River. The next home game is February 5 also against Spirit River. It will be the final home game of the regular season.
