Ottawa police evacuate hotel; cite ‘possible threat’

Ottawa police evacuated an east-end hotel as a precaution early Wednesday to investigate what they call a “possible threat.”

Police said a threat was made by a “suspicious male” who had possibly checked in at the Chimo Hotel east of downtown near Highway 417 and St. Laurent St.

A hazardous material team was sent to the hotel to investigate the alleged threat.

Police have closed all streets surrounding the hotel and are asking the public to avoid the area.

The Chimo Hotel website says it has 256 guest rooms.
