Chemical spill causes closure on Highway 97


Prince George RCMP came upon an overturned tractor / trailer unit on Highway 97 near Bellos Road, south of Prince George on Monday February 2, 2015 at approximately 1:30 p.m.

“The tanker truck is bearing a placard indicating it is transporting or was recently transporting Ammonium Nitrate, a poisonous and explosive chemical,” Cpl. Craig Douglass writes. “This portion of Highway 97 is closed until the scene is deemed safe and the tractor / trailer removed.

Personnel from the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Highways are on scene.

The driver of the truck has been transported by the B.C. Ambulance Service to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. with serious injuries.
