Man arrested after alleged threats made to Saskatchewan fire chief

LOON LAKE, Sask. — RCMP say they have made an arrest after threats were allegedly made on Facebook to a volunteer fire chief whose crew did not respond to a reserve fire that killed two children.

Sgt. Craig Cleary says a 27-year-old man was arrested and released this morning.

Cleary could not confirm what charges the man is facing, but says the suspect is to appear in court next month.

A two-year-old boy and his 18-month-old girl sister died in the house fire early Tuesday on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan (Sah-gayg-gen) First Nation.

Larry Heon (HEE-on), the mayor and volunteer fire chief of nearby Loon Lake, had said he got a call about the fire but his crew didn’t attend.

The fire department had stopped responding to calls on the reserve because the band wasn’t paying its bills.
