Fort St. John Fire Department tackle brush fire in airport subdivison

The Fort St. John Fire Department responded to a number of calls early yesterday evening of a brush fire at the airport subdivision. At the time the fire was growing at a rapid rate because of the wind conditions.

Fire Chief Fred Burrows said the fire had spread from one property into a neighbours yard and was in the bush and trees as a result of the wind. Along with battling the fire there was also a need to protect buildings on the property.

12 fire fighters were on the call and were at the scene for about an hour.

It’s suspected the fire was related to open burning. The fire department issued a reminder afterwards on their Facebook page that there is a ban in place on open burning.
