The wildfire located in the Klua Lakes basin is at 700 hectares in size, and is currently being battled by the Wildlife Management Branch. A spokesperson with the Prince George Fire Centre said air tankers and ground crews were on scene yesterday and will be again today.
The fire is 14 kilometres east of Prophet River and 80 kilometres south of Fort Nelson. It was reported yesterday afternoon and it’s suspected it may have been caused by a lightning strike.
In response to the blaze the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality issued an evacuation alert in the Prophet River area. The map of the evacuation alert is in the photo above.
