Evacuation alert issued for Penn West camp northeast of Fort Nelson

The Penn West Wildboy Plant is on evacuation alert because of a large forest fire burning 110 km northeast of Fort Nelson.

The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality issued the alert Sunday afternoon because of the potential danger to life and health.

The evacuation alert area is bounded by the longitudes 121 15.0’W to 120 50.0’W; the Pettitot River to the North; and the pipeline to the South. The evacuation area includes the Penn West Wildboy Plant.  A map of the geographical area for this evacuation alert is attached and the affected area is highlighted with a black border.  All residents, camps, and worksites within this bordered area are affected.

The forest fire in the area that has caused the evacuation alert, is 5 km west of the Tsea River and started on June 23.  The fire has reached over 3,000 hectares in size.
