The BCGEU has thrown their support behind groups in opposition of the construction of the Site C dam. A release from the union states that the “project is not needed: there are better alternatives,” according to president Stephanie Smith.

Smith went on to say that the loss in habitat numbers will be huge, that the project violates the rights of First Nations, and that it removes valued agricultural lands from protection.

The release also makes reference to a report issued by an energy analyst named Robert McCullough who stated that the project will be double the cost of other alternatives such as renewables and natural gas generation.
