City updates status of buildings and services relating to strike action

The City of Fort St. John has updated buildings that are open and closed as a result of the strike by local members of the BCGEU, as well as affected programs. Today marks day two of the job action.

Recreation facilities that are closed are the Kids Arena Fieldhouse, North Peace Leisure Pool, and North Peace Arena. Both the pool and arena are closed due to damage from Saturday evening’s fire. The arena will remain closed until the job action ends, and the pool will re-open next week at the earliest.

The Pomeroy Sport Centre and visitor centre are remaining open.

As far as recreation programs are concerned next week’s kids camp has been cancelled due to low registration numbers but camps from August 17-21, and August 24-31 are expected to go on as planned.

A number of development services are being impacted. Building inspections will not be performed during job action. Builders can continue projects but should do so in a manner so that they can comply with future inspections.

GIS services will not be available, planning and engineering services will be reduced, and payment services will be available at a reduced capacity. Approving officer services will be available.

Utilities and public works will be open and operational with reduced staffing.
