The North Peace Gymnastics Association has announced they will be closing their doors until further notice after the fire at the North Peace Arena on July 18.
According to a post on their Facebook page, the group says that all of their equipment has been damaged beyond repair and will need to be replaced, causing the Association to close until further notice. Fire Fighters from Fort St. John and Taylor spent more than eight hours fighting a fire in the roof of the North Peace Arena over the Gymnastics facility.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Although the equipment was insured, it will take sometime to replace everything as well as find a new home for the club.
According to Richelle Gauvin of North Peace Gymnastics not only is the club in a bind, but so are families as many counted on the facility for summer child care.
“Most people aren’t aware how many people use our facility,” she said. We have just over 900 members that use our facility. We are one of the only recreation facilities in town that offer services 12 months of the year. September to June we offer recreational classes and competitive classes, but this year we were full capacity for summer camps and that’s for all age groups. This summer we’ve left many families in a desperate situation because a lot of it was child care.”
If your child was registered in any of their summer camp programs, mini classes or you had a birthday party booked, the Association will issue refunds. Contact them at [email protected] with the following information:
