After celebrating Canada Day on Wednesday, Fort St John took it a bit easy this weekend but there was still lots to see and do all weekend long! The weather was great, for the most part, and some people even ended up with tickets to the Airshow. Also congratulations to Grace and Doreen who scored Journey tickets for July 16th!
Charlie Lake was a busy place on Saturday as the Git Along Horse Club hosted their Gymkhana Saturday event full of games, events, and lots of fun! The Charlie Lake Fire Department also held their Car Wash, Barbecue and Show and Shine to support local firefighters in Charlie Lake, as well as Firefighters for Families. From there, I went all the way to Taylor where the BC Peace Country River Rats held their annual family event, the Poker Rally. They had over 80 boats sign up for the event. There was also a pirate theme for the kids with games and activities! The Farmer’s Market also happened at the NP Curling Club with lots of different local crafts, foods and more! The FSJ Killbillies Roller Derby team was also having an impromptu scrimmage at the NP Arena to introduce their new girls to the sport and prepare for their upcoming bout in Quesnel.
Sunday was a quiet day with beautiful weather! A perfect day to head outside and enjoy summer! The Blizzard Bike Club held a 50 – 60km Sunday Road Race. The end came down to a sprint finish, with Ben Dawson capturing the win followed closely by Kevin Shaw and Tate Haugen. There were also lots of people at the Surerus Fields, playing tennis, practicing baseball, soccer, and playing on the playground! Lakepoint Golf and Country Club also had a perfect day to host their Men’s and Ladies’s Inter-club tournament with members from 6 local region golf courses. Lastly, I stopped by the SPCA, where they were hosting their Meet and Greet for new volunteers, as well as grooming some pets and sorting bottles.
Next weekend is looking to be even busier in Fort St John and area! Keep tuned to the Moose and Energetic City to be aware of upcoming events! I’ll be out again next weekend in the Hair Bin Summer Cruiser letting you know what’s happening in the Peace.
If you have an event you would like me to attend, please let me know!
