Heavy rains cause rocks to fall onto Alaska Highway

Heavy rain in the Fort Nelson region is causing rocks to fall onto the Alaska Highway.  According to Public Works and Government Services, rocks are falling on the Alaska Highway from kilometre 580 to 630 between Fort Nelson and Liard River.

Motorists are advised to take extra precautions in this area.

Fort Nelson and the Muncho Lake and Stone Mountain park areas are currently under a heavy rain warning.  The region is expected to receive 30 to 45 mm of rain Tuesday, with even more rain expected near the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
