Murder charges laid in work camp slayings

A 28-year-old Edmonton man is facing a pair of murder charges and another charge of interfering with human remains after stabbing two people to death at a work camp near Fox Creek.

Alberta RCMP announced today they have laid the charges against Daniel Goodridge for his alleged role in the attacks. Goodridge also faces three assault with a weapon charges, including one against a police officer.

Fox Creek RCMP responded to the attacks in the early morning hours of June 30 after reports that a man armed with a knife was attacking people at the Berland work camp, located about 50 kilometres outside of Fox Creek.

Two people — a 37-year-old man from LaCrete, and a 50-year-old woman from Red Deer — were found dead at the scene.
RCMP say autopsies were scheduled for yesterday and today. Media reports have identified the victims as David Derksen and Hally Dubois.

According to previous reports, officers found the suspect on scene and shot him. The suspect was treated in hospital.

Goodridge will appear in Fox Creek Provincial Court on July 27.
