Bernier announces funding for Aboriginal women and abused children

The Mizpah Transition House is receiving $10,000 in funding, and the Chetwynd Safe Home, and Tumbler Ridge Safe Homes will receive $5,000 each. The funding was announced yesterday by Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier.

The money will aid the South Peace Community Resources Society in improving programs and services and to make them more accessible to Aboriginal women and children in rural and remote communities according to a release.

In particular the funding will be used for things such as transportation to a transition house or safe home, a doctor’s appointment, lawyer meeting, or flying a high risk client out of the community, medical and legal services, and clothing and personal items if a woman or child has had to leave their home quickly.
