Fort St. John welcomes new Deputy Fire Chief

On Monday afternoon, the city council of Fort St. John welcomed a new deputy fire chief to join the team.

Darrell Blades joins the team here after almost 20 years of firefighting. He started his career in 100 Mile House. There, he gradually climbed the ranks from firefighter, to captain, to training officer, and finally became the fire chief in 2002.

Not only was he involved in fighting fires in 100 Mile House, but Darrell also spent four years as Director of Community Services for the town – which includes overseeing the Fire Department, Public Works, Utilities, Bylaw, Building Inspection and Recreation.

He also spent 5 years on the Fire Chiefs Association of British Columbia board (FCABC), for 1 year as Deputy Director and 4 years as Zone 5 Director.
