Fort St. John Links held their club championship over the weekend and for the first time in a long time there was a different name at the top of the leaderboard this year. Jeremy Clothier had won the event the last four times it was held but this time out Terry Duffy took the top spot after firing a 149 over the two days.
Duffy said he was fortunate to tee off a good group of players which made the rounds more enjoyable, and felt comfortable with his place in the standings on the back nine yesterday.
“I played with the same group both days; great guys to play with first and foremost,” he said. They made it really easy out there, laughing a lot and having a good time and that’s what we’re here for. On the back nine today [Sunday], I wasn’t playing very good on the front but on the tenth hole I hit one in there, felt good, and I got things rolling for the rest of the back nine. ”
Duffy shot a 75 in the first round for a four stroke lead, and a 74 in round two to win by five over Sheldon Wheeler.
Course manager Ryan Harvey said golfers had to battle a bit of wind on the final day, however it was still an enjoyable tournament for the 41 golfers that took part.
“There was challenging conditions with the wind coming up but everybody seemed to have a blast and that’s all that counts.”
