IQALUIT, Nunavut — Nine crew members from a fishing boat are adrift in Arctic waters off Baffin Island and are waiting to be rescued.

Speaking from Halifax, Navy Lt. Christine Hurov says the fishers abandoned their boat in Frobisher Bay when it began taking on water.

She says they are all wearing survival suits and are all in the vessel’s lifeboat.

The lifeboat has been spotted and radio contact has been made.

Hurov says aside from being cold and wet, the crew members are in good shape.

She says that boats in the area are on their to help and the crew is expected to be rescued shortly.
