WILNO, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police say one person is dead and an active shooter is on the loose in a community west of Ottawa.

OPP spokeswoman Kristine Rae says residents in the area should remain in their homes and report any suspicious activity.

The shooting happened in Wilno, a small community about 180 kilometres west of Ottawa.

Clinton Roche, who owns the Wilno Station and Country Kitchen cafe, says part of the village is under lockdown.

Roche says he isn’t concerned for his own safety because the cafe is in an open area about a kilometre from the central strip.
