Plan to bring more doctors to Fort St. John comes closer to completion

Another meeting took place today to advance a plan which involves bring more doctors to the city.

Health Minister Terry Lake was here on Thursday to meet with the Division of Family Practise, Northern Health, and Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm.

Lake calls it a ‘plan to strengthen primary care’ in Fort St. John and ‘innovative way of organizing physicians and integrated health care teams.’

The plan also involves using the existing money from primary care in a different way, and Lake insisted it will not come as an extra cost.

The hope is that this plan will bring more physicians to the area and encourage them to settle down.

Lake said Mayor Ackerman and the city council have also been actively involved in the plan for 6-8 months.

A meeting will take place in October in hopes to start the finalization of the plan, and get it rolling soon after.
