MONTREAL — The head of the Quebec Bar Association is stepping down.

Lu Chan Khuong made it official in a joint statement today with the association, days after both sides said they’d reached a mediated agreement over her suspension.

Khuong was suspended by the board on July 1 after it was revealed in the media she had been the subject of a shoplifting complaint at a clothing store in April 2014.

She was never charged in connection with the incident, and the matter was dealt with non-judicially at the time.

Khuong agreed to leave after receiving assurances the program she promoted in seeking election would still be considered.

Both sides say they regret any harm the dispute may have caused the professional order.
