RCMP is looking to identify a man in a truck who approached a 9-year-old girl in Sexsmith.

The incident happened near the park on 98th St. on Monday, at about 4:30 in the afternoon.

A man driving a black pickup truck with orange and red fire decals on the back gate pulled up beside the girl and asked the girl to get into his truck.

The girl ran away from the truck and headed to the front door of another house in the neighbourhood.

After, the truck then turned around and drove away.

The suspect is a 40 to 60-year-old man, who has grey/brown hair with bangs hanging over the forehead to the eyebrows, and was wearing a black sweater with the hood up.

Police are working to investigate the incident further.

They urge parents and caretakers to educate their children to stay away from strangers, and to also report any suspicious activity to police immediately.
