With the city’s official proclamation, ‘Movember’ is once again upon us and starts this upcoming Sunday.
Mike Mercanti, Neil Evans, and Marc Beerling not only requested council proclaim November to become the No-Shave affair known as ‘Movember,’ but they also challenged the council’s ‘Mo Bros’ and ‘Mo Sistas’ to start a team of their own.
The three men are planning on working with Marc Joseph Men’s Wear and the Fort St. John Hospital this year, as well as working with employees of the LP OSB to get more of the community involved.
Over the last five years, Movember Canada has raised well over $100,000 in Fort St. John.
While there are some that simply observe Movember as a month-long parade of full-bodied mustaches, it’s all fora good cause: Movember brings awareness to men’s health issues – such as prostate and testicular cancer, mental illness – and funds initiatives to help men in need.
It is reported that 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime – if detected early, the cure rate is as high as 95%.
Earlier this month, Mayor Dale Bumstead of Dawson Creek revealed that he had been diagnosed with the disease, but remained optimistic about his prognosis.
Those interested in started a team, and a mo’ if they wish, on November 1st can register on Movember’s website.
