Early this morning, the RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit in Chilliwack was able to track Jordan Joseph Wendland to a local residence through information in the tips received from the public.

He was arrested for one count of second degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault, following the stabbing of four men in downtown Sexsmith – with one man dying of his injuries.

The investigation into the incident allowed police to gather enough evidence to obtain a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of Wendland.

Wendland is now in custody in Chilliwack.

The RCMP kept the residence under surveillance and, in an effort to ensure the safety of the public, proceeded to contain the scene.

At approximately 6:20 AM, the RCMP Emergency Response Team entered the residence and arrested him without incident.

Police believed Wendland had fled Sexsmith for the Lower Mainland.

Information relating to a date when he will make his first appearance in a Grande Prairie Provincial Court is not available at this time.

The RCMP thanks the media in Alberta and British Columbia, as well as the public for their assistance in this matter.
