BC Hydro will award Peace River Hydro Partners a $1.5 billion contract to complete civic work on Site-C in early 2016, with construction starting in the New Year.

President and CEO of Petrowest Corporation Rick Quigley, part of Peace River Hydro Partners, was joined by Premier Christy Clark, Minister of Energy and Mines Bill Bennett, BC Hydro CEO Jessica McDonald in Burnaby today to make the announcement.

Quigley says over 100 people are currently employed at Petrowest, and this project is a critical job creator for the community.

Bill Bennett said the project will create 1,500 jobs at its peak, and the Premier said it will bring $3.2 billion to BC’s economy.

Main civil works is the largest single contract for the construction of the Site-C project, and includes the construction of an earthfill dam, two diversion tunnels and a concrete foundation for the generating station and spillways.

BC Hydro has said other upcoming major construction contracts include turbines and generators, generating station and spillways, Highway 29 realignment, and substation and transmission lines.

Companies shortlisted last year include AFBD JV, Salini-Impregilo S.p.A, and CLENGROUP Constructors.
