Following the announcement of a new elementary school in Fort St. John, the City will be contributing $2.5 million for the school’s gymnasium. School District 60 and the City are in the process of drafting a shared use agreement according to a City release that will allow for school use and access for community groups.

The gym will be larger than the average size found in elementary schools. When divided each side will be the equivalent in size to an elementary gym. It will also feature bleachers that will accommodate 350 people, a height of 26 feet, and ample size for basketball and soccer.

The project will go to tender in the spring of 2016 with work beginning in the summer. It’s expected to be completed in late 2017.
