Last night’s game between the Fort St. John Northern Metalic Flyers and Grande Prairie Storm lived up to the hype as a battle between the rural black division’s top two teams. The outcome was up in the air until an empty net goal by the Flyers sealed things as they won 3-1.

There was no scoring between the teams after 40 minutes of play with Grande Prairie holding the edge in shots at the time at 18-11.

The Flyers were the first to find the back of the net at the 11:13 mark of the third period. Just over two minutes later they would increase their lead to two.

Grande Prairie made things interesting down the stretch closing to within a goal with 1:42 left, but an empty netter in the final seconds by Fort St. John rounded out the scoring.

Finding the back of the net for the Flyers were Curtis Hammond, Cooper Beamish, and Connor Bowie.

The next action for the Flyers comes next weekend with a double header at home against Whitecourt.
