FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — This year, Christmas will be a holiday that one family will never forget.

In November, Moose FM asked the community to nominate a family in need of help this holiday season for their Break & Enter Contest.  The response was ‘overwhelming,’ with over 50 families being nominated. But only one family could be picked, and for the past two weeks, the station has been planning to break into their house and surprise them with Christmas gifts.

The second annual Break & Enter helped out a family of five, struggling as the mother fights cancer. The illness has left her too ill to work, and while the father works to support the family, they struggle daily with their financial hardship; the children didn’t have beds or proper winter clothing, and didn’t even celebrate Christmas last year because they couldn’t afford it.

Now, the family has many presents to open for Christmas, including a new dining room set, living room furniture set, dental check ups for the children, Christmas tree, and a discount on their rent — thanks to the help of countless sponsors and over 20 volunteers who made it possible.

The family was taken to dinner and a tour of Christmas lights and while they were out of the house, our elves and volunteers worked hard to pull off the surprise– and vanish before the family got back.

The surprise had the family ‘ shocked and excited.’ The children went upstairs first, and screamed when they saw the tree and gifts. As the parents saw it for themselves, they ‘collapsed crying and hugging each other.’
