FORT NELSON, B.C. – Northern Rockies RCMP is investigating an early morning shooting in Fort Nelson on New Years Day

Shortly before 5:00 a.m. on New Years Day, Northern Rockies RCMP responded to reports of someone allegedly being shot at with a rifle after a dispute between several people went awry in the Villars Trailer Park in Fort Nelson.

As police arrived, they stopped a possible suspect vehicle leaving the area. Inside, police located a number of people in the vehicle who they believed were involved in the altercation. A total of five people were detained for investigation. Four have been released and one remains in custody while the police investigation continues.

“This was an isolated incident and all parties involved in the incident are known to each other”, says Staff Sergeant Steve McLeod, Northern Rockies RCMP detachment commander. “Fortunately, no one was injured”.

Police will remain at the scene where the shooting took place until a forensic examination of the scene has been completed.
