GRIMSHAW, A.B. — The Peace Regional RCMP detachment in Alberta is warning people about several calls from concerned citizens they have received about a similar phone scams.

In one instance, a caller was claiming to be an officer with the RCMP and told the victim that they have a warrant for their arrest for tax-related reasons, as they claim they are calling on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency to collect payment over the phone.

In another instance, a caller claimed to actually be with the CRA and threatened to send the RCMP to arrest the victim if they did not pay taxes.

Both these scams were tried whether or not the victim’s tax payments were up to date.

RCMP says anyone that receives a similar call is encouraged to not provide personal information, and end the call.

Police remind citizens that, if it sounds suspicious, and if it sounds too good to be true, it likely is.
