EDMONTON, A.B. – Various teams within the Fort St. John Soccer Club were in Edmonton for the 2016 Slush Cup this past weekend and a number of them brought back medals. The indoor soccer tournament is one of the biggest in Canada as more than 390 teams participated.
The U18 boys won gold in pool A play. In the finals they took on Fort McMurray and won 7-1, earning the reputation as one of the best indoor teams in the Alberta Soccer Association. The squad will participate in provincials in Calgary from March 11-13.
Despite a depleted roster and missing their regular goalie the U16 boys left Edmonton with a silver medal. The Strikers used a three man rotation for the goaltending duties and their only loss came in the goal medal game 5-4.
The U14 girls also won a silver medal as they played in the tier four group. The team had a rough start after losing their opening game 5-1. They rebounded however with wins by scores of 4-1, and 2-0 respectively.
