More firefighters to start combating Beatton fire today

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — 20 more firefighters have started helping the battle against a blaze near Beatton Airport Road, and Fire Information Officer Noelle Kekula has confirmed that 10 more firefighters will join them.

Though the area was under alert of evacuation for almost a week, the Peace River Regional District has lifted that evacuation alert for the Beatton Airport Road Fire.

While the rain definitely helped with containment measures over the weekend, she says a warmer forecast and gusts of wind expected this week has the team concerned about those conditions.

Even with damp, cold conditions this weekend, the Rank 1 fire has been creeping through areas of dense ground fuels and burning areas. The BC Wildfire service says those were missed before because of wind direction and fuel concentration.

Even with those concerns, officials have lifted the evacuation alert.  The Wildfire Management Branch will continue to monitor the area.
