NRRM changes grants-in-aid policy, adds multiple deadlines

FORT NELSON, B.C. – The Regional Council for the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality amended their Grant-in-Aid Policy at their meeting on April 25.

The biggest change, according to a press release from the NRRM, is that, instead of the once annually submission deadline for GIA applications, there will now be quarterly submission dates.

Regional Council says, over the past few years, it’s become clear that meeting an annual deadline has been difficult for groups to meet — especially when events are planned with less than a year’s notice.

“With the downturn in the local economy, Regional Council decided to update the Policy to assist local non-profit groups currently struggling with the loss of other funding sources to continue to provide their essential works and services in the community,” a press release from the NRRM stated.

Now, submissions can be sent in by October 31 for the first quarter, January 31 for the second quarter, April 30 for the third quarter, and July 31 for the fourth quarter. The quarters are broken up from January to March, April to June, July to September, and October to December.

Regional Council also approved additional grant amounts of $1,600 per quarter for the third to fourth quarter of this year, in order to bridge the updated policy into the already completed 2016 GIA application period.

The third quarter intake deadline has been extended to June 30, 2016.

First established in 2010, the policy outlines the process, timeline and criteria for receiving funding or in-kind assistance from the Municipality.
