FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – To help with the current wildfire situations in Alberta, the B.C. Wildfire Service is sending 80 more crew.

100 crew arrived on Wednesday, May 25. Four unit crews with 79 firefighters are expected to arrive in Hinton, Alberta this Sunday.

After a briefing when they arrive on Sunday, they will head to the Horse River Wildfire near Fort McMurray.

Crews from B.C. can be sent for up to 19 days to another area. B.C. can recall them at anytime should the wildfire situation here worsen.

With the wildfire situation in B.C. expected to decrease, B.C. has the extra resources to send to other provinces.

110 personnel were sent to Ontario earlier this week.

The government maintains there are enough fire crews in B.C. to help battle blazes here.

“Sufficient personnel and resources remain in B.C. to respond appropriately to any fire activity and to continue the ongoing fire response efforts in the Peace Region.”
