Home destroyed by fire in Fort St. John

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Fire Department has extinguished a house fire at the corner of 106 ave and 104 street in Fort St. John.

According to Fort St. John Fire Chief Fred Burrows, when crews arrived on scene at approximately 5 p.m., the home was fully engulfed in flames.  The flames were being driven by strong winds at the time.

People were in the home at the time and were able to escape the fire after hearing a smoke alarm.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  Chief Burrows says the cause maybe hard to determine due to the strong winds that helped to fuel the fire.

There is extensive damage to the home on the second floor and then water damage on the first floor.
