OTTAWA, O.N. – The MP for Prince George,  Peace River, and the Northern Rockies tabled a bill on May 13th in the House of Commons on behalf of Marc Bennett to have the Armalite Rifle AR 15 turned to non-restricted status.

The e-petition, which garnered the most signatures for any e-petition in Canadian history with 25,249 signatures was open for 120 days before MP Bob Zimmer presented it to the House of Commons.

Zimmer read the petition, which stated the following:

“We, the undersigned lawful firearms owners of Canada, request or call upon the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to re-classify the Armalite Rifle 15 back to non-restricted status, so we can once again use this rifle to lawfully participate in the Canadian cultural practices of hunting in Canada”.

The Government of Canada now has 45 days to give a response to the petition.
