FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John is hosting the spring Mayors’ Caucus this year, and mayors from across the province went on an energy literacy tour yesterday, organized and lead by the BC Oil & Gas Commission.

According to City of Fort St. John spokesperson Julie Rogers, their day started with an information session by Pembina at the OGC’s office, after which the tour took to a bus to explore.

The tour took mayors to the Encana’s Water Resource Hub, Sunset Prairie Lodge, and Tower Sweet Gas Plant, Enbridge’s Tupper West Gas Plant Tourmaline Oil Corp.’s fracking site, Tervita’s South Taylor Facility, ARC Resources’s 16-pump jack site, and BC Hydro’s Site C construction.

Rogers confirmed that 43 mayors registered in total, and that the tour seemed to be well-received. Mayors will carry on to conduct business meetings for the rest of the event.

Looking ahead to the next set of events on the agenda for Wednesday, mayors will have an option of either taking an oil sands tour by plane, touring energy-related facilities in Fort St. John — such as the passive house and the micro-hydro generator, or returning home.
