FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — School District 60’s Secretary-Treasurer says meetings about the district’s newest elementary school have been progressing well.
In Monday’s committee of the whole meeting, Doug Boyd told the board of trustees the people from their appoint construction management firm, and have been having good meetings with local contractors.
He made note that tenders for work by contractors will be coming out soon, and they will be seeing how much local contractors are interested in the work. A site walk was conducted, in which their civic engineer was consulted at the site.
Project heavy duty, to start ground preparation, is scheduled for May 30 to June 3. Boyd said the nice weather is promoting construction but he acknowledged that the work needs to be done efficiently, but thoughtfully to avoid errors.
The construction of the new $24-million, two storey school was announced in November by the Minister of Education, Mike Bernier.
The City of Fort St. John has contributed $2.5 million for a gym that will double as a community recreation centre.
