Siphon Creek Fire holding steady

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Siphon Creek fire has also seeing some more stability.

Although containment is at only 25%, there has been no major growth since yesterday. The fire currently sits at 75,400 hectares.


The fire which is impacting both B.C. and Alberta currently sits at:

B.C. at 59.700 hectares .

Alberta at 19,200 hectares.

Crews also has success yesterday with burning off operations

“Crews were successful yesterday with a planned ignition operation on the western flank. If conditions are favorable today, firefighters will conduct an additional burn-off operation to remove unburned pockets of fuel within the fire’s perimeter. Heavy equipment continues to build containment lines in areas of recent growth on the western flank. Today firefighters will build guard along the northwestern flank, work in the southwest moving east, and mop-up 100ft in from the fire perimeter. Smoke will continue to be visible in surrounding areas.”

The current crews using to fight the fire are the following:

• 177 firefighters
• 11 helicopters
• 15 heavy equipment
