FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Save Our Northern Seniors made a presentation at the Fort St. John regular council meeting on Monday afternoon.

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Jean Leahy and Sheila Barker outlined the need for more resources for seniors living in the Fort St. John area. According to their statistics as of March 2016, SONS say that there are currently 214 persons on a waiting list for seniors housing, compared to 361 beds that are currently available.

SONS also brought to the attention of council the need for improved HandiDART service in Fort St. John, specifically on Saturdays. Currently, HandiDART service is only available on Saturdays from 9:15 AM to 4:00 PM. SONS would like to see service extended until at least 7:00 PM on Saturdays, as well as have service extended at least one night per week to allow HandiDART users the ability to go out for dinner, or see a movie.

After conferring with city staff, council resolved to add looking at accommodating an increase in service to New Business.
