FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The unemployment rate dropped slightly in Northeast B.C. last month, but it still remains the highest in British Columbia.

According to B.C. Stats, the unemployment rate is 9.4 per cent, down from 9.7 in March.  There are approximately 39,300 people working in the region up from 39,200 in March.

While this area continues to struggle with the drop in oil and natural gas prices, the rest of B.C. now has the lowest unemployment in Canada.

The unemployment rate is 5.8 per cent, down from 6.5.  The Province added over 13,00 new jobs.

The national unemployment rate remained steady at 7.1 per cent.
