TAYLOR, B.C. – As participants of the Big Bam Vertical Slam will be wrapping up their assault of the Big Bam Ski Hill, a number of mountain bikers will be preparing race down the hill at breakneck speed.

The newly-formed Fort St. John Moutain Bike Club, which began earlier this Spring, will be hosting the Giv’r To The Riv’r mountain bike race on the hill that afternoon.

The club is the brainchild of Victoria native and and avid mountain biker Gabe Wiebe, who moved to Fort St. John last year. Wiebe says that he came up with the idea to start the club after seeing interest from a small dedicated local group of mountain bikers. The club, of which Wiebe is a board member, has nearly 20 members, and is set to host their first race on trails that the group has been building for the past three months.

The race, which is set to take place beginning at 12:00 PM on Saturday will see nearly fifteen riders competing for bragging rights. The race is open to both club members and the general public. Registration for the event takes place on the Club’s website, as well as at the base of the hill on Saturday. Race fees are $35 for the public, and $25 for members. For more information, check out, or the club’s Facebook page.
