TAYLOR, B.C. – Thunder in the Valley returned for the first time in 2016 this past weekend at the Taylor Speedway.

After getting rained out May 28th and 29th, the dirt oval was able to dry out after last week’s heavy rains for the races, which started on Saturday at 5:00 PM, and again on Sunday at 1:00 PM.

On Saturday evening, Chantel Richards was able to take the win in the Senior Mini Sprints against Keagan Wallace and Carissa Elliott. Dakota Krahn beat Jesse Wassenaar and Tyler McElderry in the Mini Juniors. The Mini Adults saw Calvin Hildbrand eke out the win over Clint Mason and Justin Tackaberry. Cam Campbell won his head-to-head race in the Sports class against Dave Devries, while Johnny and Gord Beaumont went 1 and 2 in the IMCA Modifieds on top of Matt Richards in third, and A.J. Everton in fourth.

Sunday afternoon saw the track dry out completely on a crystal-clear day for the Lazer’s Edge Engraving Mini Challenge, which was won by Calvin Hildebrand. Justin Tackaberry and Ben Bodenham were the #2 and #3 racers in that event.

On Day 2 of the Snior Mini Sprints it was Carissa Elliot with the win this time, followed by Keagan Wallace, Logan Reimer, and Chantel Richards. Colton Beaumont edged out Alyssa Elliott for the win in the Junior Mini Sprints. Dakota Krahn defended against Teegan Tubbs and Tyler McElderry in the Mini Juniors. Calvin Hildebrand also defended in the Mini Adults, this time against Rich Hildebrand and Chelsea Babcock. The standings in the IMCA Modifieds were almost exactly the same as those on Saturday, with the lone exception of John Stokes placing in 4th position. Matt Burdock beat Wayne Dale and Cam Campbell for the win in the Sports class.

The Taylor Speedway will be hosting their next races on July 9th and 10th for the Doug Babcock Memorial race weekend.
