FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Though heavy rains weren’t able to stop hikers from partaking in the Big Bam Vertical Slam on Saturday, the Fort St. John Mountain Bike Club had to cancel their race that was planned for the afternoon.

A post on the club’s Facebook page confirmed on Saturday morning that the Giv’r To The Riv’r race was postponed. Speaking with Energeticcity.ca on Friday, club board member Gabe Wiebe said that there was a possibility of the race being postponed due to the hill’s clay-like soil becoming incredibly slippery during periods of rain. Though heavy rains had ended the previous evening, members from the club that surveyed the hill felt that the course was still too slippery for the race happen, as racer safety is the group’s first priority.

Giv’r To The Riv’r is rescheduled to happen this coming Saturday, June 18th, at the Big Bam Ski Hill. The race is open to club members and the general public alike. Entry fees are $25 and $35 for members and non-members respectively. There will be a practice on Friday June 17, 2016 with shuttles running from 6 pm every hour or when needed.
