FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – In the wake of record numbers of patrons using local food banks, a Fort St. John company is seeking to help stock the shelves in a big way.

Safety First Professional Driver Training will be holding a food drive for the food banks at the Salvation Army, Women’s Resource Society, and Friendship Society. The company will be travelling the streets of Fort St. John on September 17th and 18th, and will attempt to collect enough donations to fill a 53’ semi trailer with food.

The food drive comes after news in recent weeks of a vast increase in number of local food bank patrons. The spike is being blamed on high unemployment numbers in the Peace Region due to the downturn in the local area economy caused by low oil and gas prices.
