Unemployment numbers in northeast BC see slight drop

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Northeast BC has seen a slight drop in unemployment numbers for July.

We now sit at 8.8%, but that is down from the 9.2% that we were sitting at before. We still currently sit at the highest unemployment rate in BC.

The oil and gas sector has contributed to Northeast BC’s unemployment numbers.

BC does still hold the lowest unemployment rate in the country though at 5.6%.

According to BC Stats, we added 85,000 jobs over the past 12 months which is an increase of 3.7%.
