Wildfire burning 30 kilometres away from Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – The BC Wildfire Service is battling a wildfire about two kilometres northwest of Norman Lake, which is 30 kilometres away from Prince George.

The fire was reported this afternoon and the cause is under investigation. The fire sits at 10 hectares.

Smoke and fire could be visible from Highway 16 and nearby communities. An evacuation alert has been issued by the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George for residents in the Norman Lake area.

“There are currently 27 firefighters, one helicopter, airtankers and support personnel working on site. Ground crews are being assisted by airtanker drops of fire retardant and water bucketing by helicopter. The fire is currently 100% surrounded by fire retardant.”
